How Great Yarmouth has changed

Great Yarmouth’s platform is unusually clean-cut: its active voices sit Right, and both put Reform UK closest. That matches the seat’s actual direction: Rupert Lowe, sitting for Restore Britain, won here for RUK at the last general election with a majority of 1,426, a gain from Conservative.

The striking feature is not a gap between the Commons record and the platform: Lowe’s record sits Right too. The Cultural Traditionalist and The Sovereignty Conservative make this look less like a passing protest than a compact expression of the sovereignty fault line that followed Brexit.

For now, this is a small but remarkably coherent platform sample, with no centre-ground voice and no party contest to speak of. The next read will turn on whether that unanimity survives a new voice, or whether Great Yarmouth’s coastal political character begins to show more of its old electoral complexity.
