How New Forest East has changed

New Forest East looks, on this platform, like the sort of Conservative seat its result suggests: both readable voices sit to the right of centre, while Sir Julian Lewis’s Commons record is also Right. Lewis retained it for the Conservatives in 2024 with a majority of 8,495.

But its closest-party split is a warning against calling that a simple Conservative bloc: one voice sits closest to Reform UK. On every national question recorded here, the answer was no even where the UK-wide result went the other way, covering national identity, Ukraine and Labour accountability.

This is a first read, and the sample is too narrow to turn the Reform presence into a wider realignment. For now, the seat’s character is a right-leaning platform whose voices are more uniformly sceptical than Britain on questions touching sovereignty and government.

Next week’s picture could shift quickly if a new voice breaks the current Conservative–Reform standoff or tests whether that scepticism is durable.
