How Paisley and Renfrewshire North has changed

This is a Labour seat in the ballot box and a right-leaning one on refnation. Alison Taylor won it from the SNP with a majority of 6,333; the platform’s readable voices sit Centre Right or Right, closest to Conservative or Reform UK. The Commons record is Centre Left, widening the gap between the seat’s mandate and its current platform character.

The sharper story is the national countercurrent. Every referendum question tested here produced no yes vote, from gender and Russia to broadcasting and constitutional change, while the UK comparisons were all majority yes. That is not a poll of Paisley or Renfrewshire: it is a portrait of a small active group whose political language runs through law and order, welfare constitutionalism and national sovereignty.

With no earlier read, this is the baseline rather than a reversal: a Labour-held constituency whose available voices do not include a Labour-leaning one. The party pattern is not a settled Conservative bloc so much as a rightward cluster with distinct instincts, captured by the platform’s Order-and-Justice Conservative, Welfare Constitutionalist and Early-Days Law-and-Order Voter.

Next week’s picture could move sharply if a new platform voice arrives, revealing whether this is a durable countercurrent or simply the first shape of a very small active sample.
