Should England and Wales replace 43 police forces with fewer larger regional forces?
The Home Secretary has appointed former Metropolitan Police Commissioner Bernard Hogan-Howe to lead an independent review examining whether policing in England and Wales should be reorganised into fewer, larger regional forces. The review will also consider governance and accountability arrangements to maintain local responsiveness. Hogan-Howe is due to report evidence-based recommendations by the summer.
