Should Statutory Sick Pay be paid from day one regardless of earnings?

From 6 April 2026, the Employment Rights Act 2025 removes the lower earnings limit and waiting period for Statutory Sick Pay. All eligible employees will receive SSP from the first full day of sickness, paid at 80% of earnings or a £123.25 weekly flat rate. Absences beginning before that date remain under the old rules.
