Should the government spend £630,000 on a citizens' panel for digital ID plans?
The government is assembling a 100-120 person citizens' panel selected by civic lottery to gather views on digital ID plans. The panel will cost about £630,000 under a pre-existing Ipsos contract signed in March 2024. Parliament's Home Affairs Committee has criticised the digital ID announcement as rushed and poorly thought through.
