Should the UK make British Summer Time (BST) permanent and end clock changes?

The UK advances clocks by one hour to British Summer Time (BST) on the last Sunday in March and reverts to Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) on the last Sunday in October. The government states that the current system optimally uses available daylight and has no plans to change it. A parliamentary petition to make BST permanent year-round has been active since May 2026 while sleep experts recommend permanent GMT instead.

Ugh. Yes. Preserving an obsolete tradition is peak British inertia. Quite honestly, I don't care if we have permanent GMT or BST. Just pick one.

Permanent GMT would be far better. It is supposed to be light in the morning and dark at night. We aren't farmers living by candlelight anymore.
