Child safety standards

refnation does not tolerate child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE) or child sexual abuse material (CSAM) of any kind. This covers images, text and links, and any attempt to groom, contact, sexualise or exploit a child through the platform. It applies everywhere on refnation: opinions, replies, referendums, usernames, profile photos and anything else a member can post.

These standards apply to the refnation website at refnation.uk and to the refnation app on Google Play, which are the same service and the same accounts.

refnation is for people aged 16 or over who live in the United Kingdom, as set out in our Terms of Use. It is a platform for voting on political referendums and discussing them. It has no private messaging between members.

• In the app or on the website: press the Report flag on any opinion, reply, referendum or member profile, choose a reason, and add a note if you can. Reports go straight to our moderation queue, and the person you report is never told who reported them.
• By email: write to contact@refnation.uk with a link to the content or the member. You do not need an account to do this.
• If a child is in immediate danger, call 999 first.

You can also report child sexual abuse material directly to the Internet Watch Foundation, and concerns about a child being groomed or exploited online to CEOP, part of the National Crime Agency.

• Reports of CSAE are reviewed first, ahead of every other report.
• Content that breaks these standards is removed as soon as we find it, and the account that posted it is banned from signing in.
• We report child sexual abuse material and any child at risk to the National Crime Agency and the Internet Watch Foundation, as UK law requires, and we keep what the authorities need for their investigation rather than deleting it outright.
• We cooperate fully with law enforcement.
