Is the term "far-left" used too broadly in UK politics and media?
In UK media and political discourse, the term far-left historically refers to groups and ideologies to the left of the Labour Party, such as Trotskyist organisations, the Socialist Workers Party and revolutionary socialists. Recent commentary highlights inconsistent application of far-left and far-right labels, with some arguing far-right is used far more frequently to describe mainstream conservative views while far-left is applied less often to radical positions on economics, identity or foreign policy. This asymmetry affects how extremism is perceived across the spectrum.

Politics seems to be skewed heavily to the left right now, with centre-right leaning entities being called "far-right" & far-left entities being called "progressive". Wanting to simply regulate illegal border crossings is akin to being Hitler, but actual violence against vanilla right wing actors seems to get little or no mention of political standpoint
The "far left" is rarely used, instead the media talk of socialists or hard left, which is less emotive. "Far right" on the other hand is assigned to anyone who is not left.
I haven't heard it used too much. The far left does exist but they are a tiny minority and mostly confined to useless university clubs and social media posts. The far right are institutionally stronger and more numerous politically, so they will be discussed more.
Just like I said yesterday for the far right. There are far left opinions, but it's used by certain groups so describe anyone they disagree with as a frothing at the mouth communist.
Far left is hardly used at all any more, with left referred to as centre and right as far right.
For balance based on yesterday's and I am glad the Refnation gods selected it! I FEEL like it's a no, but maybe that's my own bias coming through. I think generally, if we say the term "far-right" is overused, then surely the term "far-left" is overused too. Again, I dont feel that way exactly, but I am open to it being my own bias. I would say Green's are "far-left", Labour are left. That's my compass on the matter anyway.
