Should the UK Government cover Prince Harry's security requirements whilst he is resident in the UK?
Prince Harry and Meghan returned to the UK in August 2026 with their children to live full-time as non-working royals in a private residence. The Royal and VIP Executive Committee (Ravec) is conducting a new risk assessment for taxpayer-funded protection after it was withdrawn when they stepped back from royal duties in 2020. Private security is estimated to cost up to £12 million annually while any state provision could run to millions a year.
