Should the government introduce Spatial Development Strategies to set 20-30 year growth frameworks above local plans?
The government has passed a Planning and Infrastructure Act and rewritten the National Planning Policy Framework. Less than 25% of local plans in England are up to date. Spatial Development Strategies will sit above local plans, allocate housing targets, identify Green Belt reviews, prioritise infrastructure and determine strategic growth areas including possible new towns.
