Should the UK aim for a zero-emissions power sector by 2035?

Three expert bodies—the Climate Change Committee, National Grid, and Energy Systems Catapult—state that the UK power sector can reach more than 99% fossil-free generation by 2035. The same models show this transition can maintain security of supply while enabling decarbonisation of heating, transport and industry. The target aligns with the International Energy Agency’s timeline for OECD countries to reach net-zero power by 2035.
