The government established GB Energy, a publicly owned company, to prioritise renewables for net zero targets and long-term energy independence. Offshore wind farms Dogger Bank and Hornsea 3 will power up to nine million homes by 2027, reducing fossil fuel imports. The UK hit a record 98.8% zero-carbon electricity for 30 minutes on 23 April 2026, nearing the 95% low-carbon target by 2030.
