Should the UK scrap the plastic bag charge?
Retailers across the UK must charge at least 10p for single-use plastic carrier bags under 70 microns thick. The charge began in England in 2015 at 5p, rose to 10p and extended to all retailers in 2021. Latest data for 2025-2026 shows a 98% drop in bags sold by main retailers compared to 2014 levels, with 399 million reported sold across 94 retailers.

The measure has worked in reducing plastic waste so should continue at present
It should be decision to make by retailers rather than nanny state. Society is falling into addiction of being depend on state decisions. And this is wrong.
