Was the UK's formal apology for forcing unmarried mothers to give up babies for adoption the right action?
Tens of thousands of unmarried mothers in Britain had their babies taken for adoption until the 1970s under social norms, religious practices and government policies. Prime Minister Keir Starmer formally apologised in Parliament on Thursday, calling it a stain on our history. A 2022 parliamentary committee had recommended the state apologise for the pain caused by public institutions and state employees.
