The Selective Liberal

Who you are

You want a Britain that's competent before it's comfortable — an NHS run like Germany's, deportations that actually happen, a nuclear deterrent kept sharp — but paired with a instinct to protect rights and civic protections at home: no GLA abolition, no burka ban, care workers getting a fair pay deal. It's a vision of a country that's hard-edged abroad and at the border, soft-edged in its own institutions.

Vs Britain

You're mostly in step with the country — siding with the national majority on seven of your ten votes, including the big ones on NHS reform and deportation. But you break from it clearly on banning extremist parties, where you voted yes while most of Britain said no — a rare moment of you being more hawkish on the state's power than the crowd.

The tension

Here's the contradiction worth sitting with: you'll ban a party for its ideology but won't ban a garment for its symbolism. That's not incoherence so much as a very specific idea of where the state's writ should run — over organised extremism, not over individual dress. Worth pressing yourself on.

Blind spots

Ten votes and not one on housing, the economy, education, energy or justice — the actual machinery of levelling-up and the cost-of-living fights that will define this Parliament. Right now this is a profile about the state's edges, not its engine room.

What's next

Seven scored votes is early days — real, but thin. Every vote you cast sharpens this picture; fill in economy or justice next and we'll see whether the pragmatist or the liberal actually leads.
