Should the requirement to show photo ID to vote be scrapped?

Voters in UK Parliament elections, local elections in England, and certain other polls must currently show photo ID such as a passport or driving licence before receiving a ballot paper. The requirement was introduced in the Elections Act 2022 to prevent personation fraud, which has resulted in very few convictions. The government is legislating to add bank cards as acceptable ID but has rejected calls to scrap the requirement entirely.

A Voter Authority Certificate, is free,. If you want to vote, anyone can get one. If you can't be bothered to do that, maybe you don't really care.

Although voting doesn't currently matter, proving who you are when voting will help when we get a democracy

Elections shouldn’t be less secure than accessing the internet, it seems due to the online safety act people will soon need to prove their age for access to large swaths of the internet whilst removing this for elections absolute folly

Its abundantly clear that Labour are trying to manipulate the election not only by importing migrant voters and appeasing islam invaders but by letting people cheat the system too! Postal votes from Islamists but now they can vote without ID. What's next bussing them between towns to vote multiple times over? nothing would surprise me at this point!

No ID to vote, ID to go online? I know we have a dystopian far left authoritarian government but this is a blatant attempt to expand Labour’s voter fraud operations. Labour should beware however: they have taught their tactics to their comrades in the Greens and anti-Israel independents.

I am registered to vote with the council. Voter fraud in the UK stood at 0.006% BEFORE photo ID came in. Virtually non existent. There's been 5 convictions in the last 6 years out of tens of millions of votes. It's just one more way to dissuade people from voting. Especially poor ones.

Andy Burnham obviously believes in the mantra - Vote early and vote often. That way Labour’s client base can keep them in power. Photo ID is essential to combat electoral fraud.

What will we have instead? Can't be nothing.

Ask yourself why a government would want to scrap photo ID for voting… We have it for a reason, to stop fraud and other nefarious ways in which votes are cast. How can a government be trusted if they want to scrap a system that stops voter fraud.
