Has the term 'net zero' become too toxic for the UK government to keep using?
An influential cross-party committee of MPs has recommended that the government drop the term 'net zero' from the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero's name and communications. The committee argues the phrase has lost positive associations, become a lightning rod for opposition amid cost-of-living pressures, and is now a distraction from the energy transition. Prime Minister Andy Burnham has reaffirmed commitment to reaching net zero emissions by 2050 despite opposition from the Conservatives and Reform UK.

Has it become toxic? Yes. Should it be? No. It's the result of bad actors trying to increase our reliance on Russian gas.
The term "net zero" needs to keep being emphasised, too many are ignoring that it needs to be done. If we no longer use that phrase, it could well bring a false sense of security, we could become complacent, give up on working towards it.
It’s not the term that’s the issue, It’s the skewed policies that the government pursue in its name.
We need to keep using the term ‘Net Zero’ in all cases and everywhere as much as possible to show how ridiculous it is for ‘liddle owd ingerland’ with a 1% deficit to be pushing against China and India and also good old America … eh ? Get real🤮
For the UK, net zero means legally balancing the total greenhouse gases produced by the country with an equivalent amount removed from the atmosphere. For the UK citizens it means everything is more and more expensive due to energy prices. It is obvious that most of the world will not join to this madness. Drop net zero before it will be too late for our economy and for us.
