Should Holyrood spend time debating Scottish independence?
The Scottish Parliament debated and passed a motion on 22 September 2026 affirming Scotland's right to decide its constitutional future by 84 votes to 18. Reform MSPs walked out in protest, calling it a reserved matter, a waste of time and a distraction from issues like housing, education and drug deaths. First Minister John Swinney argues it is vital given the largest ever pro-independence majority of MSPs, though the UK Prime Minister maintains a referendum is off limits.

The UK has much bigger problems at the moment than debating yet another referendum that is legally shaky. And frankly Scottish separatists are just shooting themselves in the foot for the sake of petty nationalism. I say that as someone who lives in Scotland.
Ooh, my poll! Big fan of devolution but they aren't spending their time discussing devolved issues, and instead posturing on things irrelevant to the legal powers they have. If Scotland wants independence, fine, but the law has to be followed.
Holyrood should focus on governing Scotland and addressing its many issues, so it become prosperous and stops lining the pockets of the SMPs
