Should Greater London become an independent city‑state, separate from the rest of the UK?
Greater London is the administrative area covering 32 boroughs and the City of London, with a population of around 9 million and an economy larger than many European countries. A small independence movement, sometimes called Londependence, gained attention after the 2016 Brexit vote when London strongly backed Remain, but support has remained low in polls at around 5-11%. Recent petitions calling for a referendum on London becoming a city-state closed without reaching the signature threshold, while current discussions focus on devolution, planning powers, and outer boroughs potentially splitting from the Greater London Authority.

The rest of the country complains endlessly about London - our alleged crimes rates, infrastructure, our distorting effect on the economy etc. Here's their opportunity to get rid of us, and all the migrants, Remainiacs and latte-lefties who live here, and see whether they do better with their manufacturing ethno-state. They must take their politicians back and do without the fiscal net outflow though.

For years, the rest of the country have been told theres no money for local rail or public services because London needed Crossrail and mega-projects. The idea that the capital can build an M25 moat and abandon the rest of the country that feeds, powers, and built it, is laughably detached from reality.
