Should Parliament pass the Public Office (Accountability) Bill to create a Hillsborough Law?
The Public Office (Accountability) Bill would impose a legal duty of candour on public officials to tell the truth in inquiries and investigations. It follows the 1989 Hillsborough disaster in which 97 people died and police spread false narratives blaming fans. The bill had been delayed over concerns about intelligence services' compliance but ministers have now agreed an amendment removing any exemption.
