Should UK politicians be required to publish their tax returns?
UK MPs must register financial interests that could influence their work, but there is no legal requirement for any politicians to publish full tax returns. Some prime ministers and chancellors have voluntarily released summaries in recent years, yet refusals by figures including Nigel Farage and others have renewed calls for mandatory disclosure. Public polls show around 80% support for senior politicians revealing how much tax they pay, amid ongoing scrutiny of donations, outside earnings and transparency in the current parliament.

In fact anyone running for a public position should be able to have their tax affairs scrutinised. I’d rather like to see political donors affairs looked at as well.
YES Just so everyone knows exactly how much they earning outside parliament, which in turn shows how little time they prioritise to their role as MPs
They are public servants. It seems strange that some MPs are millionaires, so we should see their tax returns. Public servants who are voted for should not be in politics for the money. Being an MP should be a vocation not a financial gain. If their tax returns were public we could see if they were doing their jobs or doing what it takes to increase their bank accounts.

They should only have their MP salary so then there is nothing to report. Family money is private.
It is really a matter of equal rights & the sovereignty of the individual.. There are many politicians that do abuse their positions & are obviously corrupt even though they have done nothing wrong in the eyes of the law. All the fortunes made from Covid PPE & Net Zero scams are the tio of the iceberg. But there are other ways to investigate & expose wrong doing.

They constantly whine about the cost to the public purse & gaslight EVERYBODY about how much people pay in tax & where it goes. So let's see how many of them actually practice what they preach. Let's see them lead by example.
Politicians should be transparent about how they earn their money. Too many MPs see their job as a ticket to a fast buck from a host of dubious businesses and campaign groups with vested interests. Witness the likes of Farage, swanning about the world on the Russian dollar while wearing his flat cap, holding his pint and pretending to be working class...This would help to end this sort of hypocrisy.
