Should fracking be allowed to restart in the UK?

High-volume hydraulic fracturing for shale gas remains under a moratorium in England since 2019 and is subject to a planned legislative ban in the upcoming Energy Independence Bill under Prime Minister Andy Burnham, while low-volume techniques like proppant squeeze are exempt and some exploration permits are under consultation. Moratoriums exist across all UK nations due to earthquake risks and environmental concerns. The policy affects energy security, local communities near potential sites, and the transition away from fossil fuels.

Fracking will, without a doubt, poison some ‘water tables’ and the poisoned water will be there forever. Some may leach through to other water tables and/or the surface, a threat to crops and wildlife.

Not sure the benefits outweigh the environmental risks.

Fracking poisons the water, there should be a global ban not just one in the UK

It's dangerous. It's harmful to local environment & poisons the the water table. Absolutely NOT

I voted No because fracking has caused several small earthquakes in the UK. We should not be causing earthquakes on purpose.

I think this could be answered factually. I think our geology is just not suitable. Unlike, say, Alaska.

It's been proven that fracking is safe. So is north sea oil,we could be so self sufficient unless we are the only country to produce oil and not make a profit!!

In the long run, we should be phasing out the use of fossil fuel for electricity generation. That is, I think, a no-brainer. But in the short term, while we build the necessary nuclear capacity, using our own fuel rather than importing it is also a no-brainer. Just look at the Strait of Hormuz.

We are controlled by extreme activists in many areas & especially Energy Policy; however first we need a proper debate about Climate & what our future Energy ‘basket’ might look like. It is criminal that that discussions have not been had & the scam that is AGW & the rush to Net Zero prevails by fiat. It’s a plan to impoverish us & bring about One World Government - the UN - & no rational person would want that. Fracking has accordingly been intentionally demonised to fail.
