Should British citizens get priority for social rented housing above non-citizens with indefinite leave to remain?
Social housing in England is allocated primarily on the basis of housing need via local authority banding systems. People with indefinite leave to remain have no recourse to public funds restriction and are generally eligible to join housing registers and receive allocations on the same terms as British citizens. In 2024/25, UK nationals accounted for 89% of new social housing lead tenants, with non-UK nationals making up the remaining 11%. Reform UK has proposed prioritising British-born citizens for social housing and restricting access for foreign nationals.

Born & bred should always be the priority. All others should have to wait or rent privately.

Social housing is and should always be baised off of need first.
Why is this even a question? Of course our own citizens in need should come first.
