The BBC is funded primarily by a compulsory £180 annual TV licence fee paid by 23.3 million UK households, though this has fallen sharply as viewing shifts to on-demand streaming. The current Royal Charter expires at the end of 2027 and the government is reviewing future funding models following a 2025 green paper consultation. The Jimmy Savile scandal exposed serious failures by BBC management in the 1960s-2000s, but no executives faced criminal prosecution.

No, it's nice to watch tv without adverts. The behaviour of certain celebrities is not the fault of the BBC, they are responsible for themselves, and so it seems good at deceiving others. I've always been happy with the honesty of the BBC and their programmes. At this time I don't think they are as dishonest as is made out, the BBC is unbiased politically, and have made some very interesting and informative programmes.
BBC funding should come from subscription or tax-based. Too easy to get away with not paying it as is.
The BBC is beyond rehabilitation. They've had decades to restructure; either changing staff, or ideology. They've done nothing. They need to pay their own way without taxpayer money or licence fees because they aren't functioning as a national broadcaster. They would need to give up control of the archives belonging to the nation. Privileged access to state functions and Parliament could be open to other channels.
No. Because we pay, we get a say. Use your voice, be reasonable and thoughtful too, in all matters - as you expect them to be.
Bbc needs reform, but the concept that its paid for by the people be stands. It has to free from political pressure or governed by advertisers. The chair should not be chosen by governments but by the people. They also shouldn't have to follow D notice as this is still government censorship
There's no longer a justification for the vast majority of services strip it back to some key things like kids TV, international services and other things that won't commercially be viable and payout via tax
The BBC is an overt propaganda organisation that lies overtly & through omission. It’s arrogant unresponsive & seeks to mould society in accordance with its delusional immature & leftist agendas. The left love the rest of us funding their hobby horses. Make it subscription based. Zero tax payers money. Let’s see how long it lasts. Maybe Brits will start feeling good about themselves again.
I wouldn't watch the BBC if they paid ME. Haven't had a licence for years. Don't miss it. Every programme was tonally the same and set my teeth on edge. As for " Oh but the World Service is soft power" - I'm already paying for foreign aid

Taxing television ownership is no longer a sensible idea, particularly as the BBC now sees its role as propaganda to support far left ambitions rather than education and entertainment.
