Should the UK Chagos Island treaty still go ahead?
The UK signed a treaty with Mauritius in May 2025 to transfer sovereignty of the Chagos Islands while securing a 99-year lease on the Diego Garcia military base for joint UK-US operations. Ratification requires UK parliamentary approval and US consent via an updated exchange of notes, but this has been paused indefinitely since April 2026 after President Trump withdrew support. The bill to implement the treaty remains in the House of Lords with no progress expected in the current parliamentary session.

It is not a deal it is surrender. If the government don't want it give it to USA. Trump will find a use for it.
I seriously don't understand who could be for this! It's the worst deal in history and I have no idea why Keir/Andy seem to be the only people for it. Explain to me ANY benefit of this.
Billions from the British taxpayer for something we already control? It’s a bad deal.
If we dont want them we should give them back to the chagosians, most of whom live in the UK not give it to Mauritius because Keir Starmers mate represented them. He's gone so should the deal
