Is scrapping the pension triple lock to fund NHS-style social care the right decision?
The state pension triple lock guarantees annual increases by the highest of earnings growth, inflation or 2.5%. It is currently set to cost over £15bn extra a year by 2030. Prime Minister Andy Burnham has proposed an NHS-style national care service expected to cost around £18bn annually and indicated nothing is off the table for funding after the next election, with some ministers and economists suggesting pension savings could be redirected.

No. If we are going to look at pensions, then the first target should be the gold-plated final salary schemes of the civil service, funded by private sector workers who could never afford such a luxury for themselves. We should ban all civil service exec salaries above the PM's and we should end the massive pay offs when they are sacked. THEN, let's look at what money we need
Scrapping the triple lock is necessary, it should be replaced with a single lock on average earnings growth. But an NHS like social care system is not what we need
With the public sector pensions still seeing up to 30% employer contributions it's utterly disgusting to do this to the state pension first
State pensions are the lowest in Europe. The cost of living keeps going up. Married women who stayed home to look after children still don't get a fair deal. The elderly shouldn't have to keep applying for extra money. Nor start worrying about what the future holds. Go after the companies who get out of paying tax.
C’mon, for once in your miserable lives, look after those that got you to here. You politicians have to start somewhere, make the stand here … eh 💥🎼
Taking money from a group that will likely need it back again? Not exactly a two-pipe problem, this one!
How about returning to good old fashion multi-generation family, rather than plotting from whom to steal the money? Demand will always be greater than the supply.
Retirees shouldn’t have to compensate for inflation.
You fund social care by a total reorganisation and refocusing of the welfare state
