Should the United Kingdom provide safe and legal routes for Afghan and Palestinian women and girls to resettle here?
The UK government has reopened the UK Resettlement Scheme with priority for vulnerable Afghan women and girls and Palestinian refugees. Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood announced the move on 28 September 2026 at the Labour Party conference, stating that safe and legal routes are capped, controlled and paired with efforts to reduce small boat crossings. Those arriving via the scheme receive indefinite leave to remain and a five-year path to settlement, unlike those on irregular routes who face ongoing status reviews.

These people should have provision made for them at home or neighbouring countries with whom they share language and culture. That is the sensible thing to do. And saying 'women & children' as if this won't open the door to their male relatives to join them is simply dishonest I would stop ALL refugees being allowed to stay until we deal properly with the disaster of the past decade of boat and truck arrivals
There are 100`s more men arrive by the small boats crossing than women so stop the illegals arriving get rid of those already here then we would have the finances and housing to then help actual refugees.
We shouldn’t accept a single refugee from either of these countries.
It’s quite simply insanity to bring these people here we are a country not an international welfare destination and the risk to public safety is obviously something they don’t care about as much as the opportunity to posture on stage and win back voters from the far left Green Party
To be blunt were a very expensive country with a little need for low skill labour and culturally very different for the people suggested. That's a recipe for disaster
Shouldn't Afghanis and Arabs seek safe passage to a country with a culture that matches their own? How much further do we have to deteriorate as a society before we acknowledge that importing incompatible cultures is a key driver in that downhill slide? I have genuine sympathy with the plight of women & girls in Afghanistan, but the solution must come from the Muslim world, not the West. As for the plight of the eternal victims in Judea, Samaria & Ga'zah - stop killing Jews!
Definitely, but also men, families, not just women. I can see the more urgent need for Afghanistan women, they are basically prisoners in their homes. Safe routes for all who need it, wherever they are. It comes to something when we have to consider this in 2026. Could be because we are integrating more with countries who treat women like possessions.
Why Afghan and Palestinian women should be special? Afghan and Palestinian men are getting epididymal hypertension. There are poor women all over the world. We should focus firstly on women and girls already in the UK. 9 women is raped in the UK per hour, until this vote will finish, 217 will be raped (27 just in London). And this not all issues: violence, mental issues, impoverishment. You can not fix the world if your home is broken.

Safe and legal routes shouldn't just be for those groups but all genuine refugees. Numbers must be finite, strictly controlled with full vetting. it shouldn't then be a pathway to then bring over large family groups. Safe routes must also come with a complete ban on allowing illegal migrants to stay. Failure to introduce this deterrent will not see illegal migration fall. Those who do not qualify will still attempt to gain entry.
