Should half of government ministers be women?

Female Labour MPs are urging Andy Burnham to commit to a 50:50 gender split in government if he becomes prime minister. The Women's Parliamentary Labour Party has drafted a 13-point plan that also calls for a female deputy prime minister and a dedicated first minister of state for women.
