Should HS2 be completed despite the higher costs and longer timescale?

HS2 is Britain's new high-speed railway intended to provide faster and more reliable journeys while relieving pressure on the West Coast Main Line. In May 2026 the Government announced that HS2 will take longer to deliver and cost more than previously set out. HS2 Ltd is now resetting the programme, renegotiating contracts and transforming into a more focused delivery company.
