Should the government give free childcare to families earning over £100,000?
Working parents in England can currently access 30 hours of free childcare per week for children aged 9 months to 4 years if both earn below £100,000 adjusted net income and meet minimum earnings rules; all 3 and 4 year olds get 15 hours regardless of income. The £100k per-parent cap creates a 'cliff edge' that disqualifies entire families if one earner exceeds it, affecting around 99,000 children in 2025-26. Opposition parties propose scrapping the threshold entirely.

Children need to be parented by those who are responsible for bringing them into this world. Parents deserve more quality family time , not more hours at work.
Nobody should be getting free childare. In the passt if you couldn't arrange for family to mind your kids, you didn't work. Children benefit immensely from the attention of their parents in the eaely years of childhood. That should be incentivised!
Free ... no .. means tested and reduced rate .. maybe... but then again why does the government need to supply free childcare in first place if wages and cost of childcare while not attempting to reduce fees of nuseries by government action/ funding and policy
The cliff edge should be reduced through taper measures, but similar to other benefits, they should be focused towards the most needy.
No, government shouldn't give any free childcare. Better the government creates environment where family can live only on salary of one of the parents.
Taper it so it's always worth earning more but we're not paying for £300k earners' childcare
It’s there to help people who would genuinely not be able to afford it.
