Should UK businesses importing soy, palm oil, cocoa and rubber be required to prove their products are not linked to illegal deforestation?

The government has published proposals, first promised in the 2021 Environment Act, requiring UK businesses to ensure imported commodities are not sourced from illegal deforestation. A consultation on the rules will begin later this year. Northern Ireland is due to implement similar rules by the end of the year.
