Will Count Binface defeat Nigel Farage in the upcoming by-election?

Yes 40%No 60%108 votes cast

Nigel Farage resigned as Clacton MP to trigger a by-election on 6 August 2026, which he intends to contest for Reform UK. Satirical candidate Count Binface has announced he will stand against him, having recently performed strongly in the Makerfield by-election. The seat has a strong recent history of supporting Farage and Reform.

There is a difference between enjoying a stunt candidate and believing in him, and this vote draws that line cleanly: for all the affection Count Binface generated on his tour through Makerfield, the chamber concluded he will not topple Nigel Farage in Clacton, 65 to 43. This reads less like a verdict on satire than a hard-nosed assessment of Reform's grip on a seat Farage has made his own.

The one age group to break for Binface was the 25-34s, who split evenly rather than dismissing him outright — the demographic most likely to treat the whole contest as a joke worth backing. Everyone else, notably the 35-44s who rejected him three to one, took a more sober view of Clacton's electoral arithmetic, suggesting the middle-aged voters here see Farage's incumbency advantage as close to unshakeable.

It echoes a wider pattern since 2016: however much metropolitan and online opinion enjoys mocking Farage, it rarely credits anyone with the ground game to actually beat him on his own turf. Novelty candidates delight commentators; they seldom move seats.

Binface may win the internet again. Clacton looks like Farage's to lose.
