Should political campaigns and advertising be restricted to English and recognised native languages?
UK political parties have used leaflets and adverts in languages such as Urdu, Bengali, Polish and Cantonese to reach non-English speakers, most recently in the 2026 Gorton and Denton by-election. Reform UK and Conservative amendments to the Representation of the People Bill to restrict election material to English or languages native to the British Isles were defeated in September 2026. The UK has no single official language, though English is dominant and Welsh holds official status in Wales.

I have voted YES but the question is flawed by adding ‘and etc’ ! The lingua franca (yes, I know …) of the whole world is English. Air travel safety depends on it, for instance. We don’t need several paths in a yes or no situation.
There is 4 countries that make up the United Kingdom each with their own languages not just England.
Correct me of I'm wrong but I thought the ability to be able to speak English was a requirement in the citizenship test? Or are people getting their cousins to sit that on their behalf like driving tests too?
