The vote went narrowly to No, while the floor’s highest-rated argument came from a Yes voter: “there are serious consequences for this behaviour”. That tension ran through a debate in which many opposed military action without arguing for passivity.
The strongest Yes voices called for a response that would make the cost unmistakable. One urged “actions which damage that regime”; another said “strength is the only thing this regime would respond to”. The case was often conditional on proof, and some Yes voters explicitly called for a measured, targeted response.
No voters’ most-respected arguments offered alternatives: “proscribing the IRGC as a terrorist organisation, seizing regime assets” and, as another put it, “Punish the people who did the act”. A weary No voice warned of “another unwinnable Middle Eastern war”; the two sides were often arguing not about consequences, but about whether force would deter or deepen the conflict.
The room also kept returning to capacity and responsibility. Some said the armed forces were not ready; others pointed to the base’s use by US forces, with one voter calling it “Trump’s war”. That left a specific uncertainty hanging over the debate: whether a plot against a base on UK soil should be treated as an attack on the UK, even if the wider conflict was not its own.
The result favoured restraint; the arguments show that restraint was not the same as letting the plot pass without consequence.

We can't afford to go to war.
A military escalation won't serve our interests, but we need to be clear about the evil the regime represents, constantly strengthen sanctions and further isolate the regime.
Name IRGC as a terror organisation, remove the offenders from the country and put sanctions on Iran. Now is not the time to get involved in a war with Iran.
Don't think this would help the situation. If what they are accused of is true, deport them, making sure they can't come back.. Joining in the war on Iran will only escalate the situation more, and spread the unrest.
Many Iranian want to see an end to Islamic regime, true patriots of Iran that stand their ground despite being shot & killed for things like singing. Tackle the regime , stop Mahmood & secure borders.
I would vote Yes if we had a military similar in numbers to what we had in the Cold War era. Labour is not pro-military though. We should be investing tens of billions in the military NOW, paid for by clamping down on illegal immigration and welfare spending. Russia, China and Iran must be laughing at our government.

People need to wake up to the insidious side of Islam and the fact that the IRGC are persecuting their own people whilst simultaneously failing to provide basic services because they redirect resources to rockets and militant proxy groups in the region. They’re even running bot farms to influence weak minded leftists to go out and attack ordinary British citizens!
We do not have the capability to have a war with Iran. We could however declare the IRGC terrorist. And remove them from the country.
We currently can’t even put a couple of ships to sea because they are broken and there are no crews for them. We would be cutting our own throats whilst hoping Iran bleeds to death!
