Should Parliament have a veto over political appointments to top diplomatic posts?

The Foreign Affairs Committee published a report criticising the appointment process for Lord Peter Mandelson as UK ambassador to the US in 2024. Mandelson was sacked last year over ties to Jeffrey Epstein. The committee said the due process appeared to be made up as it went along and security clearance was granted despite raised concerns.
