Should teachers in England receive a 3.5% pay rise from September?
The government has announced a 3.5% pay rise for teachers in England from September, followed by 3% the next year. It will provide £1.8bn in extra funding, but schools must cover the first 1% of each rise from existing budgets. The National Education Union is considering a formal strike ballot in response.

A poorly motivated and supported teacher cohort will undermine education policy. Government policy should be better defined with clear educational objectives linked to future employment strategy.
