Should the army be called in if the UK faces riots like those in France?

In the UK the army can already be requested by police and ministers under Military Aid to the Civil Authorities, but it is used rarely, and normally only when civil authorities cannot cope. Soldiers act under police direction. The 2024 riots were handled by police alone, with specialist officers working more than 40,000 shifts. France announced on 20 October 2026 that Sentinelle troops would support police at protests planned for 24 October, after riots on 17 October in several cities led to more than 2,400 arrests. The troops are mainly to guard sites while police act as the mobile force.

Then take any soldier to court for harming a scum bag. NO, not when veterans are being pursued for having done their duty in the past.

No, because I do not believe this country will get to the point France has; the army is needed for the defense of the country, not to be used on the people of this country.

Maybe...while we are taking part in our right to protest - if things start to look dicey - try to leave & get home safely! Try again to help your cause another day! It's not giving up - it's just calculating risk and your family & friends need you more than the whole country, sometimes. Be safe out there! ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Do we really want a military led coup?

Yes, but I would only have the MPs, the MOD plod, and not the combat roles in the policing of riots

Obviously yes if the type of rioters are similar to those in France , looting and destroying history, revelling in the destruction they cause.

Any civil disturbance that exceeds a certain number should have specially equipped people to deal with it. If fire or rocks are involved then a military presence is required. Protesters should remain absolutely peaceful and not in anyway obstruct society. Once it crosses that line it becomes an enemy of the state. People, property and infrastructure need protecting from destruction.

Army should call up reserves so we have at least another 20 Battalions ready to go into Riot control mode. Must be prepared & mandated to use live ammunition. We have a confected crisis but government would prefer to let UK suffer what the French have. If they unleashed the Military they would be directly challenging the hard left Antifa types which are fetishised by Labour activists & Islamists. But if we had Digital ID all would be well! Labour will not waste a good crisis

No. The fantasies some of you have for uniformed (law) fellow citizens to harm your other fellow citizens because we are simply viewing the world through different lens ARE COMING THROUGH THE SCREEN, whether you are declaring it outright or not. One side punches up. One side punches laterally. But only one side wants to use & actively change laws to harm people so they can hide behind "it's the law!" This extinction burst must have an expiry date! *she hopes* ⚡ Edited
