Should the RAF, as part of a European force, defend Ukrainian skies from missiles aimed at Ukrainian cities?
The RAF does not currently fly air defence missions over Ukraine, and the UK and NATO have ruled out a no-fly zone because of the risk of direct conflict with nuclear-armed Russia. The UK and France lead a Coalition of the Willing, whose planned post-ceasefire reassurance force includes securing Ukraine's skies. In 2025, 26 countries pledged to contribute troops, but the force is not yet mandated. A separate SkyShield proposal, designed by former RAF planners, would use up to 120 European jets over western and central Ukraine. European ministries have been reluctant to approve it while the war continues.

We should be doing this anyway, with or without other nations
If we can send jets to defend saudi fucking arabia then we can send jets to defend ukraine
A crazy idea. This would be a completely unnecessary escalation that risks a major conflict to help the losing side in a war we should have nothing to do with
As has always been the case, Russia will continue to push the boundaries of Europe. They will not stop until they meet solid resistance that forces them to play nice, as is always the case with bullies. Currently, Russia is trying to drive a wedge between Europe and the USA, and we need to show Russia that even without the USA, we are more than formidable. We need to show that the time for playing games is over, and that we will accept no more pushing.
