Should the UK have one rate of income tax for all citizens?

The UK currently applies income tax at 20% on income between £12,570 and £50,270, 40% up to £125,140, and 45% above that for the 2026/27 tax year in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. A single rate for all citizens would replace this progressive structure. Proponents claim flat taxes simplify compliance and reduce incentives for evasion through complex avoidance schemes.
