Do the British armed forces have sufficient independent capability to defend the UK from major attack without NATO suppo?
The UK maintains a professional armed forces of approximately 182,000 personnel including reserves, with strengths in nuclear deterrence, two aircraft carriers, advanced submarines, and Typhoon and F-35 aircraft. Defence spending stands at around 2.3-2.5% of GDP and is set to rise, but reports cite recruitment shortfalls, equipment gaps, and warnings that overall capability has declined in recent years amid rising global threats.

Our armed forces are a joke. We need to either up our game or we'll end up a vassal state of the US or Russia or something. Not very palatable.
We do not require any further increases in ‘defence’ spending which primarily is a money-go-round to channel cash directly to private companies who form part of the military industrial complex both here in Europe and the US.
