Is Burnham's rejection of Thatcher-era policies the right direction for Britain?
Andy Burnham has criticised Thatcher-era policies of privatisation, deregulation and deindustrialisation, claiming Britain took a wrong turn in the 1980s that left communities behind. Recent comments position him as offering a radical left-wing alternative focused on public control of essentials and reversing neoliberalism. Thatcher’s reforms transformed the economy with lower taxes, privatisation of state industries, rising home ownership and GDP growth, but also caused significant job losses in traditional industries.

Thatcherism has decimated our society and productivity, and its effects go further than just the north. Look at any privatisation project, and you’ll see juicy profits for shareholders and soaring costs for the taxpayer and working people.
