Should anyone who donates to a political party be banned from winning government contracts?

UK law does not bar political donors from winning government contracts: donations to parties are legal if from a permissible source, and the Procurement Act 2023 does not list donations as a ground for excluding bidders. The Act does allow exclusion for offences such as bribery and fraud, or for improper influence over a procurement. A 2025 Autonomy Institute report found donor-linked firms won about £138m in contracts and urged a ban, while in March 2026 the government announced a crypto donation ban and a cap on overseas donations.

Instead of an unworkable ban that shrinks competition and locks out experienced firms, we should rely on transparent oversight rather than blacklisting anyone who contributes to a party..... Follow procurement process and reward based on merit not financial contribution to the party in charge

As long as there is openness in donations and clear control on decision making, blanket bans on those donating would be to deny freedom unnecessarily.

No, only if donation was made to the party in government.

Yes as this is how the corruption starts!
