Should Ed Miliband be removed as Foreign Secretary for meeting the Iranian commissioner?
Ed Miliband has served as Foreign Secretary since July 2026 under Prime Minister Andy Burnham. In September 2026 he met Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi at the UN General Assembly, where he warned against hostile Iranian activity on UK soil while discussing the Middle East war and the Strait of Hormuz. The UK also imposed sanctions on Israeli West Bank settlements that month, which drew Iranian praise and domestic criticism from opposition figures.

How are we supposed to engage in diplomacy when our head diplomat is not permitted to entreat with their respective office holders in other nations, hostile, neutral or allied? I've never heard such a ridiculous suggestion, Britain is a global power that must mediate relationships across the planet and it is currently Ed Millband's duty of office. He is an intelligent and conscientious actor and has always represented the UK honestly and professionally in his career. End of.
I voted no, but only because the madman should be removed from government full stop. He seems to be a dangerous zealot whatever role he is given. It's not just him. When a government is praised by Hamas and the Iranian regime, there's a good chance they aren't on the right side of history.
H'e's an idiot, and I don't want him as foreign secretary, but this alone is not grounds for removal., We need to talk to adversaries.
No, he should be sacked because he is an idiot. Dangerous one.
