Should the government release grey belt land in the green belt for housebuilding?

Labour has committed to building 1.5 million homes this Parliament with mandatory local housing targets. The government is pushing local authorities to review green belt boundaries and has introduced a grey belt category for poor-quality or previously developed green belt land suitable for release. REalyse data shows green belt covers about 10% of mapped land area but current residential planning pipeline on green belt sites remains very small.
