Should the monarch and royal family be legally required to pay income, capital gains, and inheritance tax?

The British monarch and immediate royal family are not legally liable for income tax, capital gains tax or inheritance tax due to Crown immunity. Since 1993 they have paid these taxes voluntarily under a non-statutory Memorandum of Understanding, with King Charles disclosing a £12.9 million bill for 2024-25 and over £30 million since accession. Much royal wealth, including Duchy of Lancaster income and assets held in right of the Crown, remains untaxed or only partially taxed, with no full public tax returns submitted.

I don't see why not. Surely it would help our Royals be more acceptable to those who want rid of them. The UK is as much for them as it is for us, we pay, so should they, it all helps provide for everyone.

Yes to income and capital gains tax, but no to inheritance tax for the monarch, royal assets are largely held for the Crown, not as personal wealth

Paying tax shouldn't be an optional act of charity just because you wear a crown. Normal working folk get taxed on every single penny, while multi-billion-pound royal estates dodge 40% inheritance tax and rake in millions from commercial land. If they want the public to respect them, they should live under the exact same laws as everyone else.

In modern democracy all citizens should be equal before the law. They are citizens too.
