Should the UK adopt a Hybrid Navy model under the 2026 Defence Investment Plan?
The Ministry of Defence published the 2026 Defence Investment Plan on 30 June. It commits the Royal Navy to a Hybrid Navy model while maintaining funding for new frigates, nuclear-powered submarines and support vessels. The plan also funds the final Astute-class submarine, four Dreadnought submarines and 12 SSN-A submarines under the AUKUS partnership.

I think it's clear from the Ukraine war that at the very least the days of a large standing fleet in the US model is coming to an end. It's far too easy to destroy a high value carrier/warship with cheap drones
