Should the UK create a state-owned housebuilder to support construction during market downturns?

Housing secretary Steve Reed has confirmed the government is exploring plans for a state-owned housebuilder. The proposal aims to maintain construction activity, retain skills and investment during housing-market troughs when private demand weakens. Private housebuilders would continue to deliver most homes.
