Should the UK restore the 0.7% of national income overseas aid target?
The 0.7% aid target was legislated under Gordon Brown but ditched in 2020 by Rishi Sunak. Keir Starmer chose further significant cuts to aid spending to fund defence instead. Labour MPs and the New Economics Foundation thinktank are urging Andy Burnham to promise a return to the target via a 10-year trajectory.
