Would Keir Starmer's defence spending plan leave a £5bn shortfall for his successor?
The government announced a defence investment plan with £15bn in new spending. Defence Minister Luke Pollard said the next chancellor must find an extra £4.7bn in the autumn Budget to fund it. Kemi Badenoch claims the plan is £5bn short and that the shortfall was only revealed to Andy Burnham on Tuesday.

The Ukraine conflict has clearly demonstrated that conventional military force projection is compromised and rendered ineffective where an adversary can quickly implement new and much cheaper technologies.
